Efectos de la temperatura, el ambiente lumínico y la escarificación sobre la germinación de semillas de Bromelia serra Griseb. (Bromeliaceae)

Abstract: RESUMEN -Bromelia serra Griseb. Show more

“…One would expect germination proportions to be generally low and highly variable in space and time because most seeds would fall on unsuitable arboreal habitats (Zotz, 2016). Abiotic factors that play an important role in germination success include: exposure to incident radiation (Pinheiro and Borghetti, 2003;Klekailo et al, 2012;Marques et al, 2014;Leroy et al, 2017), temperature (Montes-Recinas et al, 2012), water availability (Bader et al, 2009;Cavalcante et al, 2010;Mantovani and Iglesias, 2010), the nature of the substrate (Hietz et al, 2012;Leroy et al, 2017), and elevation and/or location in the canopy (Winkler et al, 2005). Water and nutrient availability are important factors for the epiphytes, because these plants have no direct contact with terrestrial soil, and seedlings desiccate faster than adults (Schmidt and Zotz, 2001;Zotz and Hietz, 2001;Mondragón et al, 2004).…”

“…In addition, low temperatures decrease the metabolic rates derived from lack of activation energy for the enzyme system (FLOSS, 2008). Such responses can be observed in Bromelia serra Griseb, for which temperatures of 15 °C and 20 °C inhibit germination (KLEKAILO et al, 2012). Even though high temperatures decreases water viscosity and increases water kinetic energy, benefitting seed soaking and metabolic rate rise (MARCOS FILHO, 2005); extremely high temperatures disrupt enzyme system and cause protein denaturation besides cellular membrane system breakdown.…”

“…Individuals of these two species exhibit plastic phenotype changes when growing under different light conditions (Cavallero et al 2009(Cavallero et al , 2011. Although these species may propagate both sexually and asexually (Smith and Downs 1979;Bianchi et al 2000;Scrok and Varassin 2011;Klekailo et al 2012), asexual reproduction appears to be predominant in this and other forests (Benzing 2000;Barberis IM, pers. obs.).…”
