Estimate of respiration rate and physicochemical changes of fresh-cut apples stored under different temperatures

Abstract: In this study, the influence of storage temperature and passive modified packaging (PMP) on the respiration rate and physicochemical properties of fresh-cut Gala apples (Malus domestica B.) was investigated. The samples were packed in flexible multilayer bags and stored at 2 °C, 5 °C, and 7 °C for eleven days. Respiration rate as a function of CO2 and O2 concentrations was determined using gas chromatography. The inhibition parameters were estimated using a mathematical model based on Michaelis-Menten equation… Show more

“…Sweet corn still respires after harvesting, with sweet corn quality during storage observed both physically and chemically. Decreased levels of sugar characterize biochemical degradation as a result of a sustained respiratory process (Fagundes, Carciofi, & Monteiro, 2013). With the treatment of chicken compost 15 t/ha and KCl 150 kg/ha, sucrose content decreased from 13.93 0 Brix (70 DAP) to 12.73 0 Brix (73 DAP) and until 12.50 0 Brix (75 DAP) (Table 5).…”

“…The alterations in the respiration pathway affected the RQ, which indicates the nature of the substrate used during the respiration process. Thus, a RQ equal to 1.0 indicates that the metabolic substrates are carbohydrates, whereas an RQ higher than 1 indicates that the substrates are organic acids [41]. The multifactor ANOVA in RQ reveals a significant effect of storage time and coating formulation.…”
