Secondary prevention of type 1 diabetes mellitus: stopping immune destruction and promoting ß-cell regeneration

Abstract: Type 1 diabetes mellitus results from a cell-mediated autoimmune attack against pancreatic ß-cells. Traditional treatments involve numerous daily insulin dosages/injections and rigorous glucose control.
