Evaluation of the antiedematogenic activity of artemetin isolated from Cordia curassavica DC

Abstract: The species Cordia curassavica (Boraginaceae), known popularly as "erva baleeira", is used in folk medicine for the treatment of several inflammatory processes and as a healing agent. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the antiedematogenic activity of crude dichloromethane extracts of Cordia curassavica and of the artemetinenriched fraction. The crude extract and artemetin fraction were tested in the model of carrageenin-induced paw edema in male Swiss mice (25-30 g). The crude dichloromethane … Show more

“…Dichloromethane extract of leaves and stem of C. curassavica showed significant anti-inflammatory activity. [177] Methanol bark extract of Cordia platythyrsa and ethanol leaf extract of C. macleodii also showed potential anti-inflammatory activity. “…The gel showed significant analgesic activity. [179] Dichloromethane extract prepared from leaves and stem of C. curassavica showed a significant antinociceptive effect at doses of 300 and 1000 mg/kg by reducing the acetic acid-induced writhing in mice from 37.1 AE 2.28 (control) to 17.3 AE 1.34 (300 mg/kg) and 13.2 AE 1.44 (1000 mg/kg), respectively [177] (Tables 3 and 4).…”

“…The anti-inflammatory activity of the essential oil made it possible to develop the first Brazilian phytodrug, Acheflan, an anti-inflammatory drug of topical use. Different activities have also been reported for other extracts, such as the methanolic extract, which presents effects on oedema formation and reduction of myotoxicity induced by the venom of Bothrops jararacussu (Ticli et al, 2005), and the dichloromethane extract, which has shown antiedematogenic activity in in vivo assays (Bayeux et al, 2002). The antiparasitic activity of methanolic extracts from C. verbenacea has already been tested against Leishmania sp.…”

“…Methanolic Extract Ticli et al, 2005,Braga et al,2007 Antiedematogenic Dichloromethane Extract Bayeux et al, 2002 The effect of the observation period on the mortality of the worms was also analysed. We consider that the best extract from C. verbenacea was the one that in 24 hours was able to eliminate more worms with higher concentrations (Figure 6).…”

“…The survey concluded that no anatomical studies were carried on this genus in Iraq or abroad. On other hand there are many taxonomicaland phytochemical studies on this plant and some members of Boraginaceae such as [12]- [13]- [14] studiesAnatomical study deals with the structure, contents and the systematic anatomy is mainly aimed towards relating structure particularly of vegetative organs to taxonomic classification of the plants, moreover the anatomical evidence can be employed in the identification [15], which may often be leaf epidermis and leaf cross section, anatomy provide extensive taxonomic data and the chemical compounds distribution in organs to isolate and used as a treatment. [16] Reported due the high cooperation between unique structures and medical importance we need to inspect anatomical characters.…”
