Serial blood pressure measurements

Abstract: The objective of the present investigation was to study the effects of a 60-s interval of venous congestion between two noninvasive measurements of arterial blood pressure (ABP) on the fluctuation of ABP, assessed by the standard deviation of the differences between two readings. ABP was measured in 345 successive patients, at rest, four times each. For 269 participants, one pair of readings was obtained with a 60-s interval and the other pair without an interval. For 76 patients, the first pair was read at th… Show more

“…Three studies were identified that investigated the effect of a shorter-than-usual interval between subsequent measures (Supplementary Table 24) [ 304 306 ]. Of these, only two reported the mean differences in SBP and DBP between different intervals (specifically 15 s vs. 1 min and 1 vs. 2 min), but they were not statistically significant.…”

“…3,[6][7][8] Our study included a 30-second average rest time between measurements. Even though a 60-second rest break was not provided between consecutive blood pressure measurements in this study, a study performed by Koehler et al 29 found that serial blood pressure measurements did not significantly differ from consecutive blood pressure measurements taken with the recommended 60second rest interval, which may add to the accuracy of our measurements.…”

“…Em cada consulta deverão ser realizadas pelo menos três me didas, sugere-se o intervalo de um minuto entre elas, embora esse aspecto seja controverso. 10,11 A média das duas últimas deve ser considerada a PA real (D). Caso as pressões sistólicas e/ou diastólicas obtidas apresentem diferença maior que 4 mmHg, deverão ser realizadas novas medidas até que se obtenham medidas com diferença inferior (D).…”
