Effect of prostaglandin A1 in the induction of stress proteins in Aedes albopictus cells

Abstract: Prostaglandins are natural fatty acid derivatives with diverse physiological effects, including immune function and the control of cell growth. While the action of prostaglandins in the induction of stress proteins in vertebrate cells is well documented, their functions in invertebrate cells have been poorly investigated. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of prostaglandin A 1 (PGA 1 ; 0.25, 1.25 and 12.5 µg/ml) on protein synthesis during the growth of Aedes albopictus cells. We fo… Show more

“…folding were influenced to a greater or lesser extent by PG treatments, including proteins 1, 16, 25, 26 and 28. This is consistent with the biomedical background, in which PGs are thought to play major signaling roles in stress responses, including induction of HSP genes (Negishi and Katoh, 2002 (Barbosa and Rebello, 1998). Our experimental PG treatments influenced expression of genes encoding proteins involved in the signal transduction category, #32, 33 and 36.…”

“…PGA 1 induces the synthesis stress proteins in Vero cells (FIGURE 2) and in A. albopictus cells (BARBOSA; REBELLO, 1998). We also found that in SINV infected cells, heat treatment (39 ºC for Vero cells and 30 ºC for A. albopictus) inhibited virus replication by 98% in both cell lines.…”

“…PGs are synthesized in vertebrates by cyclooxygenases, although, in insects, the enzymes have been recently identified as peroxidases [97,98]. Barbosa and Rebello [51] reported that prostaglandin A1 (PGA 1 ) mediates the synthesis of stress proteins during cells' lag phase (specifically, HSPs 27, 29, 70, 80, and 87 kDa) in the C6/36 Ae. albopictus cell line.…”
