Abstract: -(Floral morphology and anatomy of fi ve species of Galipea Aubl. and its bearing on the evolution of tubular fl owers in Neotropical Rutaceae). Most genera of the neotropical subtribe Galipeinae (tribe Galipeeae, Rutoideae) have tubular fl owers with several forms and degrees of fusion between parts. The fact that Galipea and other genera in the subtribe bear only two fertile anthers plus fi ve or more staminodes is also intriguing, since generally the Galipeeae exhibit isostemony. To elucidate the anatomic c… Show more

“…Notably the union of petals into a sympetalous corolla, the union of the stamens among themselves and their fusion with the petals, the union of anthers and their basal appendages, and the partial to complete connation of carpels have been described (e.g. Engler, 1874Engler, , 1931Ramp, 1988;Kallunki, 1992Kallunki, , 1998Kallunki and Pirani, 1998;Pirani, 1999Pirani, , 2004Pirani and Kallunki, 2007;Pirani et al, 2010). In several systematic treatments for genera of Galipeinae, Kallunki and Pirani have reported the participation of trichomes in the connection of floral organs and have used a special terminology for it (e.g.…”

“…These features indicate an intermediate situation between dentonection and capillinection, two types of adhesion described by Weberling (1989) in floral parts. Examples of the intertwining of trichomes in petals of Rutaceae are described in Correa Andrews (Rutaceae) (Hartl, 1957;Weberling, 1989) and in subtribe Galipeinae (Pirani, El Ottra & Menezes, 2010;El Ottra, Pirani & Endress, 2013).…”
