Influência da flora das florestas Amazônica e Atlântica na vegetação do cerrado sensu stricto

Abstract: -(The influence of Amazonian and Atlantic flora in the vegetation of cerrado sensu stricto). The contribution of Amazonian and Atlantic floras was analyzed in twelve localities in the cerrado biome. A total of 290 tree and shrub species were recorded in those localities. Of these, 41.1% occurred only in cerrado and are probably endemic, and 58.9% also occurred in Atlantic and/or Amazonian forest. For non-endemic species the contribution of Atlantic forest was greater (44.8%) than Amazonian ones (1.4%), with th… Show more

“…Thus, sympatric speciations gave rise to vicariant species from forest ecotypes (Rizzini, 1997) of a fragmenting vegetation matrix (Pennington et al, 2000). These ecotypes must have overcome the restrictions imposed by the drier climate which in turn, must have strongly restrained the distribution of forest species throughout the cerrado (Méio et al, 2003). According to Allem (2004), an example of sympatric speciation among cerrado Euphorbiaceae (under edaphic influence, in this case) involved Manihot violacea Pohl as the parent species and M. irwinii D.J.…”

“…A discontinuous merging between the savannas and seasonal forests is also frequent along ecotonal areas (Leitão Filho, 1982), where the cerrado biome shows a greater floristic affinity with this forest phytocenosis than with ombrophilous forests (Méio et al, 2003). Exchanges of floristic elements among savanna formations and Atlantic and Amazonian forests possibly have been occurring since the Quaternary (Ab 'Sáber, 2003) and have been facilitated by such access paths as gallery forests (Rizzini, 1997).…”

“…In addition, these Cerrado forest formations may be explained by the great influence of the Atlantic vegetation on the origin of the Cerrado (Méio et al, 2003), which is mostly linked to the basin of Paraná river. Thus this species may be relict, explaining their low frequency in this biome.…”
