Morfo-anatomia comparada das folhas do par vicariante Plathymenia foliolosa Benth. e Plathymenia reticulata Benth. (Leguminosae - Mimosoideae)

Abstract: -(Comparative morpho-anatomy of leaves from the vicariant pair Plathymenia foliolosa Benth. and Plathymenia reticulata Benth. (Leguminosae-Mimosoideae)). The bipinnate adult leaves of P. foliolosa from the forest (Minas Gerais) and P. reticulata from the cerrado vegetation of Brasília (DF), Brazil, were studied. All parts of the leaves were examined under the light microscope with normal and polarized light. P. reticulata leaflets are larger than those of P. foliolosa. The anatomical structure in all parts sho… Show more

“…Based on morphological characters, Warwick and Lewis (2003) reported no recognizable ecotypes or any infra-specific taxa of P. reticulata. However, the ample range of studies demonstrating differences when comparing Plathymenia individuals from different vegetation types (Heringer, 1956;Matos Filho, 1959;Marinis, 1966;Heringer and Ferreira, 1972;Lewis, 1987;Mendes and Paviani, 1997; and the present study) suggests the possibility of the existence of P. reticulata ecotypes from Cerrado and Atlantic Forest should be taken into account, although further investigations are certainly necessary.…”

“…The inland Atlantic Forest shows a semi-deciduous physiognomy, sharing some climatic conditions with the Cerrado, as both are characterized by marked seasonality in rainfall and minor seasonality in temperature, although the extent and severity of the dry season is more evident in the Cerrado (Fonseca et al, 1999;Mittermeier et al, 1999). Morphological differences are found among trees of Plathymenia from the different vegetation types (Heringer, 1956;Matos Filho, 1959;Marinis, 1966;Heringer and Ferreira, 1972;Lewis, 1987;Mendes and Paviani, 1997), motivating discussion about the systematics of the genus. Two Plathymenia species were recognized: P. foliolosa growing in forest areas and P. reticulata in the Cerrado (Heringer, 1956), until a recent revision of this genus proposed it to be monospecific (Warwick and Lewis, 2003).…”
