Selectivity of Linuron Herbicide for Carrot When Sprayed in Post-Emergence

Abstract: -Among the herbicides registered for carrot crop in Brazil, linuron is the most used one, according to horticulturists. However, there are few reports in the literature on its selectivity for the carrot plants. Therefore, the aim of this work is to study the selectivity of linuron herbicide for growing carrots, influenced by genotype, product dosing, and plant development phase at the time of application. This work included four experiments, one in greenhouse, and three in the field, in area of commercial carr… Show more

“…The presence of weeds is considered to be one of the biotic factors responsible for reducing both quantity and quality of the roots. Decreased root production is possible up to 100% due to lack of proper control (Freitas et al, 2009, Swanton et al, 2010, Correia and Carvalho, 2017. Weeds can serve as hosts for pests, diseases and nematodes, thus weed control is one of the focal cost constrains affecting carrot production (Boydston et al, 2008).…”

“…Roots of Chantenay had significantly larger root (in both seasons) and core diameter (in 2019) than those of Nantes, but there were no noticeable differences between the two cultivars in root length in both seasons and core diameter (in the first season). However, Correia and Carvalho (2017) found significant differences in root length among Brazilian carrot cultivars. The roots of the Verano hybrid are longer than the roots of the Brasilia and Kuronan cultivars.…”
