Selectivity of Herbicides Bentazon and Nicosulfuron for Crotalaria juncea Intercropped with Maize Culture

Abstract: -The objective was to study the selectivity of herbicides bentazon and nicosulfuron, alone and in a mixture, to Crotalaria juncea, when established in intercropping with maize, as well as weed control and maize development in this production system. Two experiments were conducted in the field, in late harvest and in harvest periods. The experimental design was a randomized block, with 14 treatments and four replicates. Eight treatments with herbicides bentazon (720 and 960 g a.i. ha ) were studied, besides six… Show more

“…The same results were indicated that by Nogueira and Correia (2016) showed that applied herbicides bentazon decreased weight of weeds; these results may be due to the inhibition effect of weed control treatments on weed growth. Kremer (1997) fluroxypyr decreased weed growth in maize.…”

“…The 28.5% mixture of nicosulfuron and mesotrione are supposed to be useful for weed control in corn (Nogueira and Correia, 2016;Abbas et al, 2016). Mesotrione is a triketone, which inhibits the enzyme 4-hydroxyphenolpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD); it is used to selectively control weeds in maize (Pallett, 2000).…”

“…It has been reported to fix up to 305 kg N ha À1 (Perin et al, 2004;Wang et al, 2002). Crotalaria is thus a good nitrogen source for other crops within intercrops (Chieza et al, 2017;Daniel et al, 2020;Nogueira & Correia, 2016). It is also drought-resistant and grows on almost all soil types (Blomme et al, 2016(Blomme et al, , 2020Chiu, 2004).…”
