Germination and emergence of Stachytarpheta cayennensis and Ipomoea asarifolia

Abstract: seedlings that emerged from depths greater than 2cm. These germination and emergence responses are discussed in relation to their ecological implications and to weed control strategies.

“…As sementes de plantas daninhas que estão dormentes não são afetadas pela maioria dos métodos de controle, enquanto que, em processo de germinação, elas tornam-se muito vulneráveis (Dias Filho et al, 1996).…”

“…Germination of Pitted morning-glory (Oliveira and Norsworthy, 2006) decreased with an increase in drought stress. Seed germination of Ipomoea asarifolia declined linearly with decreasing osmotic potential, and germination ceased at osmotic potential <-0.8 MPa (Dias-Filho, 1996). This suggests that morning-glory species had varying sensitivity to osmotic stress.…”

“…They are ecologically characterized by chemically and physically depleted soils with low nutrient supply (especially in P and N), low cation exchange capacities, and high soil compaction [4,7,14,25]. The capoeira is almost completely uprooted and rather unpalatable native grasses, perennial herbs, herbaceous lianas, and shrubs that do not reach the biomass production of capoeira species are invading the areas [3,47,48]. This agricultural weed vegetation formation is locally called "juquira" in the Bragantina region.…”
