Show more

“…This basic standard of organization has been described for other reptiles (Jollie, 1962;Ilio and Hess, 1994;Holmes and Gist, 2004;Akbarsha et al, 2006), birds (Artoni et al, 1999;Aire and Stoley, 2000;Simões et al, 2004;Orsi et al, 2007) and mammals (Ilio and Hess, 1994); however, the morphology of the seminal ducts can differ significantly between given groups of animals (Holmes and Gist, 2004).…”

“…Histological differences throughout the extent of the ductules have been described for several mammal species (Ilio and Hess, 1994), birds (Simões et al, 2004;Orsi et al, 2007), and reptiles (Holmes and Gist, 2004;Akbarsha et al, 2006). The P. geoffroanus had a ductule diameter that varied significantly in size.…”

“…On domestic quails, was reported that vas deferens showed little annual variability, with a significant increase in tubular caliber, intraluminal storage of spermatozoids and occurence of mitochondria, lysomes, endoplasic reticulum and variable vesicles in the cytoplasm of principal cells. These ultrastructural features of principal cells seems to be indicative of the occurence of active processes of endocytosis, and degenerative characteristics were observed at the supranuclear cytoplasm of epididimary P cells on autumn (Orsi et al 2007). On crocodiles, endoplasmic reticulum was also abundant, indicating protein production, despite of absence of visible secretory material (Guerrero et al 2004).…”

“…The PED were preceded by the extratesticular rete testis (RT), as well as the vas deferens succeeded the DE. This pattern from epidydimal region (ER) tubules had been characterized in several species of birds (TINGARI, 1972(TINGARI, , 1973HESS et al, 1976;AIRE, 1979aAIRE, , 1979bAIRE, , 1980LAKE, 1981;STEFANINI et al, 1999aSTEFANINI et al, , 1999b, including the Coturnix coturnix japonica (AIRE, 1979b;JONES, 1982JONES, , 1988, and Coturnix coturnix (ORSI et al, 2007a(ORSI et al, , 2007b(ORSI et al, , 2008.…”
