“…One hundred thirty-five articles (reporting data from 57 countries) met our inclusion criteria (search strategy of study selection in Figure 2 ). Of these, 90 reported incidence [ 22–96 ], (EOGBS: 74 studies; LOGBS: 33 studies), 64 reported CFR [ 22–27 , 30 , 34 , 37 , 38 , 41–43 , 46 , 49–57 , 59 , 61 , 63 , 68 , 70 , 71 , 73–75 , 78–81 , 84 , 89 , 90 , 92 , 95–111 ], and 45 reported serotype data [ 22–25 , 31 , 42 , 47 , 50 , 55 , 61 , 63 , 66 , 70 , 73 , 78 , 81 , 84 , 112–138 ]. “…Overall incidence of neonatal infections was 1.34 per 1000 livebirths which is 2.5 times higher than the estimated global incidence and twice higher the incidence reported for the Americas (0.67 per 1000 livebirths) [7]. Data reported from Latin América are variable and fluctuate between 0.3-1.15 × 1000 livebirths, with mortality rates ranging from 20 to 60% [5, 9, 22–27]. Neonatal incidence reported here is lower than previous reports by Bajaras et al in Colombia [23] (neonatal incidence: 1.8 per 1000 livebirths) and similar to that reported from Brazil by Miura et al (1.15 per 1000 livebirths 95% CI: 0.7-1.9) [24], possibly due to similar hospital characteristics.…”

“…Os GBS diferenciam-se em dez sorotipos distintos relacionados aos determinantes antigênicos da superfície celular, sendo classificados como: Ia, Ib, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII e IX. Os dez sorotipos capsulares se distinguem de acordo com a variação da virulência e de antígenos, os quais são detectados por imunodifusão ou PCR (FIOLO et al, 2011;. A identificação dos sorotipos é crítica para estudos clínicos e epidemiológicos.…”
