“…Similar results were found in previous studies in which there was no difference in QoL in the comparison between groups for the general 13 and specific scores of this variable, suggesting that functional postoperative adaptation that transcended the additional anatomical modifications imposed by breast reconstruction took place 33 . Our findings allow us to state that, for the sample evaluated, immediate breast reconstruction had no major impact on functionality and QoF when comparing the women who underwent it with the women who did not.…”

“…According to previous reports, the majority of women opt for this form of breast reconstruction in an attempt to lessen the negative feelings triggered by the disease and its treatment, as well as to improve self-esteem, resolve the lack of a breast, and facilitate greater freedom in clothing options. After mastectomy, the absence of the breast alters a woman's body image, potentially generating a sensation of mutilation and the loss of femininity and sensuality 23 . There are published reports demonstrating better social interaction, higher levels of professional satisfaction and fulfillment, and a lower frequency of depression at one year after surgery among women who underwent mastectomy associated with immediate reconstruction 24,25 .…”

“…As a result, women opt for reconstruction in the attempt to reduce the negative feelings triggered by the disease and its treatments, to improve self-esteem, overcome the lack of the breast and facilitate the use of their wardrobe. 10 It was observed, in some cases, that the feeling of loss and mutilation caused by the mastectomy is mitigated; and the women feel greater security and freedom for frequenting social environments. The women make it clear that it is not necessary for the breast to be exactly as it was before the surgery, and emphasize that the volume offered by the prosthesis or flap provides the women with confidence that they can use various types of clothes, including those which expose part of the new breast, without needing to worry whether the prosthesis will shift or appear, or even fall out.…”
