Câncer de vesícula biliar: experiência de 10 anos em um hospital de referência da Amazônia

Abstract: The present study showed high incidence of gallstone disease. Advanced stage adenocarcinoma was the most prevalent. This resulted in a low rate of operations with curative intent, in 30% of the patients, and a mortality rate of 21%. The appreciation of symptoms and early investigation by imaging could facilitate treatment in early stages of GC, providing a better prognosis for patients.

“…Cholecystectomy alone -mainly laparoscopic cholecystectomy -is an adequate treatment for pT1a tumors whereas additional radical surgery plus lymph node dissection might be needed to achieve a tumor-free surgical margin for pT2 and pT3 patients (2,6,8,10,13,14,17) . Herein, an aggressive reoperation for iGBC is usually warranted as the majority of patients have residual disease after the radical surgery (9,14) , as we noticed in our study.…”

“…Regarding the most affected gender, it is possible to observe in a statistically significant manner that females have higher incidence in both surgical procedures, as shown in the study by Ishak et al 13 , in which gallbladder cancer has represented, among women, a 79% rate. Dincel et al 1 , in their research, have shown that females have a four times higher frequency of gallbladder cancer when compared to males.…”
