Potential of utilization of rain water excess for irrigation of green roofs in Mato Grosso, Brasil

Abstract: The aim of this study was to identify the relation between the evapotranspirometer demand and the supply of water from local rainfall, evaluating the possibility of using water excess for irrigation of Green Roofs in the State of Mato Grosso, in Brazil. The study was done using a series of historical data provided by the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET - Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia) which has official climatological stations in 12 cities and regions of the State. The evapotranspiration values w… Show more

“…By 253 installing a rainwater tank on a green roof, the total annual stormwater retention increased 254 from 43 to 87% in Florida (Hardin et al, 2012). In Brasil, the potential of RWH has also been 255 acknowledged, although the installation of rainwater tanks still causes some concern as a 256 considerable area is required (reservoir volume 16-102 m³ for a 100 m² green roof), which is 257 expensive in urban areas (Vieira et al, 2013).…”

“…A adoção da água de chuva como uma fonte alternativa com qualidade razoável principalmente para uso não-potável, como lavagem de calçadas e irrigação de jardins; também ajuda a diminuir o volume consumido de água tratada, gerando também economia no sistema de tratamento e na conta de água do usuário favorecendo uma melhoria dos indicadores locais de qualidade ambiental e dos recursos hídricos (VIEIRA et al, 2013).…”

“…In case of green roofs acting as source of pollutants, they can contaminate water bodies (Karczmarczyk et al 2018). Some studies have already investigated the in uence of green roofs in Brazil (Vieira et al 2013;Noya et al 2017;Santos et al 2019;Castro et al 2020). Specially in a tropical climate, extensive green roof vegetation species need to endure a hot environment, high solar exposure, and wind.…”
