Fungicides used to control the Asian soybean rust are composed almost entirely of mixtures involving the systemic (triazoles) and meso-systemic (strobilurins) modes of action. However, to control the soybean downy mildew, only protective fungicides are available. The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of fungicides with different modes of action in the control of downy mildew and Asian soybean rust. A field experiment was carried out in a randomized block design, with seven treatments [negative control; difenoconazole at V7 + (azoxystrobin + cyproconazole) at R2 and R5.1; (tebuconazole + carbendazim) at V7 + (azoxystrobin + tebuconazole) at R2 and R5.1; carbendazim and mancozeb at V7 + (azoxystrobin + tebuconazole) at R2 and R5.1; (tebuconazole + carbendazim) at V7 + mancozeb in V7 + (azoxystrobin + tebuconazole) at R2 and R5.1; (tebuconazole + carbendazim) at V7 + (azoxystrobin + tebuconazole) at R2 and R5.1 + mancozeb at R2 and R5.1; (tebuconazole + carbendazim) at V7 + azoxystrobin + tebuconazole at R2 and R5.1 + mancozeb at R2 and R5.1 + carbendazim at R5.1] and four replicates. The following variables were evaluated: disease severity based on diagrammatic scales, phytotoxicity, product effectiveness, defoliation, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, 1,000-seed weight and yield. The treatments with mancozeb addition showed to be more efficient in reducing the severity of mildew and Asian soybean rust and defoliation, providing increased seed yields for the crop. For the soybean downy mildew, the treatments with addition of mancozeb to benzimidazole, strobilurins and triazoles were more efficient in reducing the severity and for the control.

The soybean rust (SBR) epidemics are often triggered by weather conditions, which interfere actively on the disease progress. Therefore, weather variables can be used to estimate the risk of occurrence and severity of SBR outbreaks. This research aimed to determine the influence of weather variables on SBR progress in different field trials in Brazil. Field experiments were conducted during 2014-15 and 2015-16 soybean growing seasons in Piracicaba (SP), Ponta Grossa (PR), Campo Verde (MT) and Pedra Preta (MT). For all sites and seasons, a susceptible soybean cultivar was drilled with 0.45 m row spacing and 12 plants per linear meter. No fungicide sprays were applied to ensure natural disease occurrence. In order to create different environmental conditions, sequential sowing dates, of roughly 30-day intervals were carried out. In Piracicaba, Ponta Grossa, Campo Verde, and Pedra Preta the main weather variables influencing SBR were leaf wetness duration - LWD (R = 0.340), air temperature during LWD (R = 0.313), and cumulative rainfall (R = 0.304). The final severity was assessed only at Piracicaba and Ponta Grossa, and it was mainly influenced by LWD (R = 0.643). It is possible to conclude that epidemics of SBR were mainly influenced by leaf wetness duration, accumulated rainfall and air temperature during the LWD. Therefore, future researches aiming to develop a disease warning system for SBR should include the cumulative rainfall, LWD and the air temperature during LWD, together or individually, as inputs.

Para estabelecer o momento adequado da aplicação de fungicidas no manejo da ferrugem asiática da soja (FAS), avaliou-se a época da pulverização dos fungicidas epoxiconazole e piraclostrobina (FEP) com base na detecção de uredósporos de Phakopsora pachyrhizi (PP) em condições de campo na área experimental da Faculdade Integrado de Campo Mourão, no Paraná, na safra verão de 2009/2010. O delineamento experimental foi realizado em blocos ao acaso, com sete tratamentos e quatro repetições, sendo: 1) aplicação do FEP com umidade acima de 80%; 2-5) aplicação do FEP 1-2, 6-7, 11-12 e 18-20 dias após a detecção dos primeiros esporos de PP, respectivamente; 6) aplicação do FEP após a detecção dos primeiros sintomas da FAS; 7) aplicação do FEP no estádio R1. A testemunha foi composta por plantas não tratadas com FEP. Houve redução da severidade da FAS em todos os tratamentos. Os valores da área abaixo da curva de progresso da FAS (AACPFA), taxa de progresso da doença (r) e severidade máxima (Y max ) na testemunha foram de 520,31; 0,06 e 45,65%, respectivamente. Foram detectados os menores valores de AACPFA (39,73), r (0,02) e Y max (3,91%) no tratamento 1. No entanto, o maior número de pulverizações do FEP foi realizado neste tratamento, com quatro aplicações. No tratamento 4, houve duas aplicações. Registrou-se a menor produtividade na testemunha (2085 kg. ha-1). A maior produtividade foi obtida nos tratamentos 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 e 7, acima de 3000 kg ha-1. Além disso, registrou-se o menor valor da massa de mil grãos na testemunha. Os maiores valores foram obtidos nos tratamentos 1, 2, 3 e 6. Portanto, a época de aplicação de fungicida baseada na detecção de uredósporos de PP é eficiente no manejo da FAS.
