Caesalpinia pulcherrima is an exotic species belongs to the Fabaceae family commonly known as flamboyant-mirim, and widely used for urban forestry. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different substrates on the emergence and early seedlings growth of C. pulcherrima . The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse belonging to the Centro de Ciências Agrárias, Universidade Federal da Paraíba. The experimental design was completely randomized and treatments had 14 substrates: sand, vegetable soil, vermiculite, wood dust, carbonized rice straw, vegetable soil + sand 1:1, sand + wood dust 1:1, sand + carbonized rice straw 1:1, earth + wood dust 1:1, vegetable soil + carbonized rice straw 1:1, vermiculite + sand 1:1, vermiculite + wood dust 1:1, vermiculite + earth 1:1 and vermiculite + carbonized rice straw 1:1. Evaluation of the effect of the treatments was through the following determinations: percentage of emergency, first count, index of germination speed, length and dry weight of roots and shoots. The vermiculite, vegetable soil + sand 1:1, vermiculite + sand 1:1, vermiculite + saw dust 1:1, are suitable for emergence and early growth of seedlings of Caesalpinia pulcherrima . Substrates saw dust and carbonized rice straw were responsible for the worst performers on emergence and seedling development.

RESUMO: O presente trabalho teve o objetivo de avaliar o desempenho germinativo das sementes de ipê amarelo (Tabebuia chrysotricha) em diferentes substratos, coletadas em diferentes estádios de maturação das síliquas. Foram realizados em laboratório os testes de precocidade de emissão de raiz primaria (PERP), germinação (GE), sementes mortas (SM) e peso de matéria verde (PMV) em três substratos (papel, areia e vermiculita) e quatro stádios de coleta das síliquas (fechada < 20cm, fechada > 20cm, em abertura e em dispersão). O teste de emergência de plântulas foi realizado em casa de vegetação em dois substratos (areia e vermiculita), com avaliação aos 42 dias após a semeadura. Concluiu-se que o melhor substrato para germinação em laboratório foi o papel filtro; sementes coletadas de síliquas fechadas apresentaram maior germinação, menor vigor e menor índice de mortalidade. Na casa de vegetação, o tratamento mais promissor à emergência foi a combinação do uso de vermiculita como substrato e sementes provenientes de siliquas fechadas. Palavra-chave: Armazenamento. SUMMARY: The present study aimed to evaluate the germinal seed performance yellow ipê (Tabebuia chrysotricha) collected at different stages of maturation of pod beans in different substrates. Took place in laboratory the tests of precocity primary root issue (PRSP), germination (GE), dead seeds (SM) and weight of green matter (VMP) with three substrates (paper, sand and vermiculite) and four stages of collection (closed < 20 cm, closed > 20 cm, in openness and in dispersion). The seedling emergence test was conducted in a greenhouse in two substrates (sand and vermiculite), with evaluation at 42 days after sowing. It was concluded that the best substrate for germination in the laboratory was the filter paper; seeds collected from closed pod beans had higher germination, less vigor and lower mortality of seeds. In the greenhouse, the treatment more promising for emergence was the combination vermiculite substrate and seeds from pod beans closed. INTRODUÇÃO O ipê (Tabebuia chrysotricha (Mart. ex DC.) Standl.) conhecido como ipê-amarelo-cascudo, ipê-amarelo, aipé, ipê-tabaco é uma árvore decídua, heliófita, que ocorre na floresta pluvial atlântica do Brasil desde o Espírito Santo até Santa Catarina (LORENZI, 2000). As sementes possuem baixa longevidade em ambiente natural. Porém, foram classificadas como ortodoxas e, portanto, podem ser armazenadas sob refrigeração, em embalagens impermeáveis, após a secagem (AMAZONIA, 2002). A curta longevidade natural das sementes de ipê está ligada à pequena quantidade de substâncias de reserva armazenadas na semente (KAGEYAMA; MARQUEZ, 1981) e ao elevado teor de óleo em sua composição química. -Brazilian samples from the Aldama genus (Asteraceae) could not propagate vegetatively despite their thickened underground system; thus, this study on sexual propagation is critical given the lack of data on reproductive strategies for such species. The aim for this research was to assess the optimal temperature for Aldama arenaria, A. filifolia, A. linearifolia, A. robusta and A. trichophylla seed germination. Seed germination was evaluated at the constant temperatures 20, 25 and 30 °C and the alternating temperatures 15-35, 20-30 and 20-35 °C with an 8-h daily photoperiod, using fluorescent-lamp. The ungerminated seeds were evaluated for embryo viability. The A. filifolia seed health was also evaluated. The optimal temperatures for germination are 20 and 25 °C for Aldama arenaria, A. filifolia, A. robusta and A. trichophylla seeds and 20 °C for A. linearifolia seeds. The alternating temperature 15-35 °C is not recommended for germinating seeds from these species. The six fungi taxa studied herein did not affect A. filifolia seed germination.Index terms: Compositae, sexual propagation, Viguiera, cerrado.Germinação de sementes de espécies brasileiras de Aldama (Asteraceae) RESUMO -Amostras de espécies brasileiras do gênero Aldama (Asteraceae) não têm capacidade de se propagar vegetativamente, apesar do seu sistema subterrâneo espessado; assim, esse estudo da propagação sexuada é importante, devido à falta de informações sobre as estratégias de reprodução dessas espécies. O objetivo da pesquisa foi determinar a faixa ideal de temperatura para a germinação das sementes de Aldama arenaria, A. filifolia, A. linearifolia, Aldama robusta e A. trichophylla. A germinação das sementes foi avaliada em temperaturas constantes de 20, 25 e 30 °C e alternadas de 15-35, 20-30 e 20-35 °C sob fotoperíodo diário de 8 h, sob lâmpada fluorescente. As sementes não germinadas foram avaliadas quanto à viabilidade do embrião. A sanidade das sementes de A. filifolia também foi avaliada. As temperaturas ideais para a germinação das sementes de Aldama arenaria, A. filifolia, A. robusta e A. trichophylla são 20 e 25 ºC e, para as de A. linearifolia é 20 °C. A temperatura alternada de 15-35 °C não é recomendada para a germinação das sementes dessas espécies. Os seis táxons de fungos que foram determinados não influenciam na germinação das sementes de A. filifolia.Termos para indexação: Compositae, propagação sexuada, Viguiera, cerrado.
