Abstract: This paper tracks the points of contact between poetry and prophecy in Ancient Greece based on readings of the Greek archaic epic poetry, and literary and anthropological studies. Those points of contact are summarized in three main topics: the experience of the divine; the similarity of formal components that makes poetic of both poetic and prophetic interpretation closer processes; the narrative use of prophecies and signs in Greek epic poetry. Both the reception and the performance of the Greek archaic poetry go beyond pure entertainment, and are more than mere aesthetic experiences (though they are certainly meaningful aspects of poetry): they are part of the experience of the divine.

a consequence. Since the word makhlosýnē isn't used nowhere else in the Homeric poems, some ancient commentators considered the possibility of athetizing the passage, because it would introduce in the poem an understanding of the erotic relation incompatible to the Iliad as a whole. Nevertheless, the explanation of this term in a scholion to the passage based on a reference to the Hesiodic fragment 132 M-W (= fr. 81 Most) adds new elements to its interpretation. o erotismo de helena na ilíada: dioniso, a perspectiva homérica e o gosto dos comentadores Classica, e-ISSN 2176-6436, v. 32, n. 2, p. 283-316, 2019desse período.
