Comparison of USEPA 3050B and ISO 14869-1: 2001 digestion methods for sediment analysis by using FAAS and ICP-OES quantification techniques

Abstract: Recebido em 19/7/10; aceito em 25/2/11; publicado na web em 5/5/11 A study of the partial USEPA 3050B and total ISO 14869-1:2001 digestion methods of sediments was performed. USEPA 3050B was recommended as the simpler method with less operational risk. However, the extraction ability of the method should be taken in account for the best environmental interpretation of the results. FAAS was used to quantify metal concentrations in sediment solutions. The alternative use of ICP-OES quantification should be condi… Show more

“…Location of Namal Lake and sampling sites. using a thermostatically controlled Block Digester (Temak-Digestor Model DK 20) with (1:1) HNO 3 , H 2 O 2 (30%), and HCl [21]. The heated samples were then allowed to cool and were filtered using 0.45 µm filter paper and finally diluted to 100 ml in a volumetric flask.…”

“…Besides, the potassium and phosphorus were measured by using USEPA 3050B. This method is internationally recognized to analyze solid sample elements, such as soil, sediment, and sludge [ 24 ]. The analytical test method was conducted by a chemist under ChemVi Laboratory Sdn Bhd, located at Shah Alam, Selangor.…”
