Generación de estados superficiales durante la formación electroforética catódica de películas de TiO2 sobre ito

In the present work TiO 2 films were formed over Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) employing cathodic electrophoretic deposition (Cathodic-EPD) and Dr. Blade Technique. The films were characterized by electrochemical techniques in order to compare their electronic properties; as well as, their photoelectrochemical behavior. The electrochemical performance showed by the films, allowed to relate the modification occurring during the Cathodic-EPD, with the partial reduction of TiO 2 nanoparticles, generating Ti 3+ defects. These trapping states are modifying the electronic properties of the film, and diminishing the transport of the photoelectrogenerated electrons toward ITO.Keywords: cathodic electrophoretic deposition; surface states; TiO 2 . INTRODUCCIÓNA pesar de los esfuerzos realizados por diferentes investigadores en el campo de materiales, el TiO 2 continúa siendo el material empleado con mayor frecuencia en las celdas fotoelectroquímicas (celdas solares, producción de hidrógeno, degradación de contaminantes, entre otras), gracias a sus propiedades únicas como: alta estabilidad, alta actividad como fotocatalizador, y su relativo bajo costo. 1 Para la aplicación del TiO 2 en este tipo de celdas, es necesario que el material se encuentre soportado en un sustrato conductor, que permita la colección de los electrones fotogenerados en el sistema. Para ello, existen diferentes técnicas que son comúnmente empleadas en la formación de depósitos de óxidos semiconductores, sobre sustratos conductores, dip coating, 2 spin coating, 3 slip coating, 4 magnetron sputtering, 5 deposición electroforética, 6 el método del Dr. Blade, 7 entre otras. Entre todas estas técnicas, la deposición electroforética (EPD) sobresale, gracias a su relativo bajo costo, reproducibilidad, y a que se han obtenido películas semiconductoras con muy buena actividad fotoelectroquímica. 8 Además, la deposición electroforética es una alternativa para la fabricación de películas semiconductoras a partir de materiales nanoparticulados comerciales, como el Degussa P-25; y por medio del control de los parámetros de proceso, es posible obtener películas con una gran variedad de espesores y morfologías, brindándole una versatilidad atractiva para un gran número de aplicaciones. 912 La técnica de EPD también ha mostrado ser viable para la preparación de películas de distintos materiales semiconductores, por ejemplo; GilSun Kim et al. emplearon la EPD en la fabricación de celdas solares con nanotubos de TiO 2 , con un aprovechamiento de energía solar de hasta 6.72%, superior a la obtenida por el método del Doctor Blade, la cual sólo alcanzó una eficiencia de 0.65%. 13 La EPD también ha sido útil para la preparación de películas de materiales compuestos, como TiO 2 /PTh, 14 TiO 2 /C, 15 y nanotubos de TiO 2 modificados con WO 3 . 16 Asimismo, se ha empleado para caracterizar las propiedades fotoelectroquímicas ...
