Abstract: Recebido em 14/1/02; aceito em 24/7/02 TIN CHEMISTRY IN THE 18 th CENTURY, OR HOW AN INQUIRY BECAME A RESEARCH PROJECT. An ominous suspicion arose in France in the second half of the 18 th century, that household tin objects might be contaminated with arsenic.
