Show more

“…At a p-value cutoff of 0.05, no statistically significant difference between the best-performance sets of two and five parameters was observed; however, the parameters R, std, and asm i seem to give additional information about tumor characteristics (Table III). In a previous work, 47 the angular second moment (asm) and the standard deviation of the GLCM (std) were shown to be the most significant parameters in differentiating benign lesions (cysts and fibroadenomas), atypical hyperplasias, and tumor recurrences. By definition, asm provides a measurement of the homogeneity degree of a determined texture; the more homogeneous the texture, the higher the asm value.…”

“…Benign lesions with more organized texture patterns produce higher values of asm 1 than malignant ones. 76 The sre is based on the fact that the texture in an image can be characterized based on run-lengths of gray levels. Most texture information is concentrated in the short-run region.…”

“…Computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) can be defined as a diagnosis made by a radiologist who utilizes the result from automated quantitative analyses of radiographic images as a second opinion in the diagnostic decision making process (12) . The purpose of CAD is to improve accuracy in diagnosis, as well as the consistency of radiological images interpretation, by utilizing the output from the computer as a reference (13)(14)(15) . Today, the standard for the utilization of CAD systems is still based on the model of a standalone workstation, without the integration of the obtained results with the information system or with the PACS.…”
