Show more

“…The selection gain for the remaining characteristics was deemed less significant due to the low coefficient of genetic variation (data not shown). The selection index used here proved satisfactory in alfafa (Vasconcelos et al, 2010), açaí (Teixeira et al, 2012), passion fruit (Rosado et al, 2012), popcorn (Freitas et al, 2013), potato (Terres et al, 2015), soybean (Bizari et al, 2017) and tomato (Nick et al, 2013).…”

“…Based on the classical index, predicted gains were maximized for all traits when it was used genetic variation coefficient, standard deviation, and heritability coefficient at the family level, as economic weights (Table 5). Teixeira et al (2012) evaluated 25 progenies of açaí palm and observed small fruit production gains when the genetic variation Table 1. Summary of the variance analysis of dry matter production (DMP), number of tillers (NT), stem diameter (SD), plant height (PH), and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) for full-sib families of elephant grass in two harvest cuts (C) coefficient and average progeny heritability were used as economic weights.…”

“…Other characters that had a relative participation in the observed divergence were: FYB, with 7.9% for accessions and 15.4% for sources; and NRB, with 6.4% for accessions and 12.3% for sources. Both of these characters had already been reported as important for the selection of progenies of purple acai palms, aiming at fruit production (Farias Neto et al, 2008;Teixeira et al, 2012;Oliveira et al, 2015;Yokomizo et al, 2016). Moreover, the first character stood out because it facilitates the choice, by the breeder, of progenies according to fruit size -small fruits are preferred by sellers, due to the larger amount of pulp after being processed (Farias Neto et al, 2011).…”
