-The success of conservation systems such as no-till depends on adequate soil cover throughout the year, which is possible through the use of cover crops. For this purpose the species belonging to the genus Urochloa has stood out by virtue of its hardiness and tolerance to drought. Aiming ground cover for the no-till system, the objective was to evaluate the establishment of two species of the genus Urochloa, in three sowing methods, in the weed suppression and the sensitivity of these forages to glyphosate. The study design was a randomized block with a 2 x 3 x 3 factorial arrangement, in which factor A was composed of Urochloa ruziziensis and Urochloa hybrid CIAT 36087 cv. Mulato II, factor B was formed by sowing methods: sown without embedding, sown with light embedding and sown in rows, and factor C was composed of three doses of glyphosate (0.975, 1.625 and 2.275 kg ha -1 of acid equivalent). For determination of weed suppression, assessment of biomass yield and soil cover was performed, by brachiaria and weeds, at 30, 60, 90, 120 and 258 days after sowing. Visual assessment of the desiccation efficiency at 7 and 14 days after herbicide application was performed. It is concluded that embedding Urochloa seeds stands out in relation to sowing in the soil surface. Urochloa ruziziensis is more efficient in the dry weight yield, weed suppression, in addition to being more sensitive to glyphosate herbicide.Keywords: no-till, crop-livestock integration, Urochloa sp., desiccation, glyphosate. -The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of lignin, hemicellulose, and cellulose concentrations in the decomposition process of cover plant residues with potential use in no-tillage with corn, for crop-livestock integrated system, in the Cerrado region. The experiment was carried out at Embrapa Cerrados, in Planaltina, DF, Brazil in a split plot experimental design. The plots were represented by the plant species and the subplots by harvesting times, with three replicates. The cover plants Urochloa ruziziensis, Canavalia brasiliensis, Cajanus cajan, Pennisetum glaucum, Mucuna aterrima, Raphanus sativus, Sorghum bicolor were evaluated together with spontaneous plants in the fallow. Cover plants with lower lignin concentrations and, consequently, higher residue decomposition such as C. brasiliensis and U. ruziziensis promoted higher corn yield. High concentrations of lignin inhibit plant residue decomposition and this is favorable for the soil cover. Lower concentrations of lignin result in accelerated plant decomposition, more efficient nutrient cycling, and higher corn yield.

RESUMO -Mesotrione é um importante herbicida registrado para uso na cultura do milho, porém pouco tem sido feito para estudar a suscetibilidade de espécies como Brachiaria brizantha a esse herbicida. O presente trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar a supressão imposta pelo mesotrione em plantas de Brachiaria brizantha, visando à viabilização de um cultivo integrado com a cultura do milho. Os tratamentos foram distribuídos em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições, sendo estes constituídos por sete doses de mesotrione (0, 12, 24, 48, 96, 144 e 192 g ha -1 ), um tratamento com o cultivo de milho solteiro e capinado, além de um tratamento com capim-braquiária cultivado de forma solteira e capinada, totalizando assim nove tratamentos. As espécies milho e B. brizantha (cv. Marandu) foram semeadas concomitantemente. Os tratamentos herbicidas foram aplicados aos 20 dias após a emergência das espécies. O mesotrione mostrou maior potencial de fitointoxicação em plantas de B. brizantha ao ser aplicado na dose de 192 g ha -1 . Entretanto, a espécie forrageira apresentou tolerância satisfatória ao herbicida, demonstrando potencial de utilização no sistema de integração lavoura-pecuária. A competição interespecífica proporcionou reduções no rendimento do milho, e a melhor relação dose-benefício para esse sistema foi obtida com a utilização de 96 g ha -1 de mesotrione.Palavras-chave: consorciação, inibidores da HPPD, Poaceae, milho, Zea mays.ABSTRACT -Mesotrione is an important herbicide applied to corn, but little is known about the susceptibility of species, such as Brachiaria brizantha to this herbicide. The trial was conducted in a randomized block design with four replications, corresponding to seven doses of mesotrione (0; 12; 24; 48; 96; 144 and 192 g ha -1 ), a control (corn without interference) and a treatment with beard grass grown as a single. Both crops were sown on the same day. The herbicide was applied at 20 days after emergence of the species. Mesotrione showed the greatest potential for plant toxicity in B. brizantha plants, when applied at a dose of 192 g ha -1 . However, grass forage showed satisfactory tolerance to the herbicide, indicating potential use in crop-livestock systems. The inter-specific competition led to reductions in corn yield, and the best dose-response relationship to benefit both cultures was obtained by using 96 g ha -1 of mesotrione.
