Thesis (Master Degree) Program of Postgraduate in Production Engineer -School ofSão Carlos, University ofSão Paulo.This article presents a research with aim to catalog the use and the changes that information technology provide to micro and small furniture business from Votuporanga-SP pool. Information technology is one of the strongest allied for organizations, as enable summarize, treatment and analysis of data; by this process people can get these informations in a fastest way, increasing the reliability and agility in the decision process. Thus, the information technology usage is being favoured ahead of many market changes. This changes, very often compelling the companies to be more jlexible, organized and agi/e to fit itself. Now seems to be the time for micro and small business, as the information when well used can bring competitive advantages. Was realized a survey with sixty four industries in the period of September to December of 2001, being used a inquire method. The collect process was realized by question forms, composed by forty nine questions and interview with the administrator responsible for the information technology area within the company. The results indicate that the visited companies are beginners in the information technology use because o f the simple systems used, and that the changes after implementation were significant and the benefits provided were according the companies desire.
