-The demand for seedlings of Brazilian native tree species has increased due to the growing number of recovery projects for degraded areas. In order to obtain success in the revegetation, high quality seedlings should be used. Among the factors that affect the quality of seedlings there is nitrogen fertilization, since nitrogen (N) is one of the nutrients required in the largest amount by plants. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the response of Cassia grandis and Peltophorum dubium seedlings to N sources and doses. The treatments were represented by a factorial of three sources (ammonium nitrate, calcium nitrate and ammonium sulfate) by five N doses (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg dm -3 ), arranged in randomized complete block design, with four replicates. After 145 days of sowing, were obtained: height (H), collar diameter (CD), shoot dry matter (SDM), root dry matter (RDM), total dry matter (TDM), and calculated the dry matter mass ratio of shoot and root (SDM/RDM) and the Dickson Quality Index (DQI). Nitrogen fertilization resulted in growth gains and improved the seedlings quality of both species. However, the sources and the source × doses interaction were not significant for all variables. For the studied substrate (Red-Yellow Latosol) the recommended dose is 185 mg dm-3 of N for the production of Peltophorum dubium seedlings. For the production of Cassia grandis seedlings was not able to find the optimum dose of N.Keywords: Plants nutrition; Seedling production; Nitrogen fertilization. FONTES E DOSES DE NITROGÊNIO NO CRESCIMENTO E QUALIDADE DE MUDAS DE CASSIA GRANDIS E PELTOPHORUM DUBIUMRESUMO -A demanda por mudas de espécies nativas tem aumentado devido ao crescente número de projetos de recuperação de áreas degradadas. Para o sucesso da revegetação, devem ser utilizadas mudas de qualidade, e entre os fatores que influenciam a qualidade, destaca-se a fertilização nitrogenada, uma vez que o nitrogênio (N) é um dos nutrientes requeridos em maior quantidade pelas plantas. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a resposta das mudas de Cassia grandis L. f. e Peltophorum dubium (Spreng.) Taub. às fontes e doses de N. Os tratamentos foram representados por um fatorial de três fontes (nitrato de amônio, nitrato de cálcio e sulfato de amônio) e cinco doses de N (0, 50, 100, 150 e 200 mg dm -3 ), dispostos no delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Após 145 dias da semeadura, foram obtidos: altura (H), diâmetro de coleto (DC), massa de matéria seca da parte aérea (MSPA), da raiz (MSR), e total (MST), e calculada a relação entre a massa de matéria seca da parte aérea e raiz (MSPA/MSR) e o índice de qualidade de Dickson (IQD). A fertilização nitrogenada resultou em ganhos no crescimento e qualidade das mudas de ambas as espécies estudadas. As fontes e a interação fontes × doses não foram significativas para todas as variáveis estudadas. RESUMOO objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o crescimento e a qualidade de mudas de Cassia grandis Linnaeus f. (cássia-rosa) em função da adubação fosfatada e da calagem. Os tratamentos foram representados por um fatorial de seis níveis de fósforo (0, 120, 240, 360, 480 e 600 mg dm -3 ) por cinco níveis de saturação por bases do substrato (3,5 (original), 25, 40, 55, 70%), sendo dispostos no delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. Aos 65 dias após a repicagem, foram medidos a altura da parte aérea (H), o diâmetro do coleto (DC), a massa de matéria seca da parte aérea (MSPA), massa de matéria seca de raízes (MSRA) e massa de matéria seca total (MST), e calculada a relação MSPA/MSRA e o índice de qualidade de Dickson (IQD). A adubação fosfatada teve influência significativa em todas variáveis estudadas. A dose de fósforo adequada para a produção de mudas de qualidade de Cassia grandis nas condições estudadas, na saturação por bases de 25%, é de 600 mg dm -3 . The treatments were arranged in a factorial design of 6 phosphorus levels (0, 120, 240, 360, 480 and 600 mg dm -3 ) by 5 base saturation levels (3,5 (original), 25, 40, 55, 70 %), in randomized blocks with four replicates. The height of the aerial part (H), collar diameter (DC), dry matter of shoot (MSPA), dry matter of root (MSRA), and total dry matter (MST) were determined at 65 days after the transplanting. The relation between dry matter of shoot and dry matter of root (MSPA/ MSRA) and Dickson quality index (IQD) were calculated at this stage. There were significant effects from the phosphate fertilization to all studied variables. Based on this study, the recommended P dose for quality seedling production of Cassia grandis is 600 mg dm -3 , for 25% of substratum's base saturation. INTRODUÇÃOA expansão agrícola e a alta demanda por produtos madeireiros aumentaram a exploração dos remanescentes florestais nativos, resultando em altas taxas de desmatamento, que culminaram na degradação de extensas áreas no Brasil devido ao seu abandono após a perda da capacidade produtiva ou manejo incorreto. A revegetação dessas áreas é fundamental para melhorar as características físicas e químicas do solo, fornecendo, por meio da cobertura vegetal, a proteção necessária para diminuir a perda de solo por erosão (SILVA et al., 2011).

Growth and Quality of Leucochloron incuriale Seedlings Subjected to Liming and Phosphorus

Leucochloron incuriale can be used in projects to restore degraded areas and for logging purpose. Soil has been used in nurseries to produce seedlings; however, most soil types in Brazil have low nutrient availability and high acidity level. The aim of the current study is to assess the effect of liming and phosphate fertilization on the growth and quality of Leucochloron incuriale seedlings. Treatments were arranged in factorial design with five base saturation levels -3.5 (original), 25, 40, 55 and 70% -and six P levels -0, 120, 240, 360, 480 and 600 mg dm -3 -in completely randomized blocks with four repetitions. The morphological features and their relations were assessed 82 days after planting. Phosphorus levels had significant effect on most of the assessed traits. The recommended P dose was 475 mg dm -3 .
