RESUMOAtributos morfológicos, físicos e pedogenéticos relacionados com a "produção de água" em microbacias do município de Guarapari, ES, BrasilAs características dos solos relacionadas com a gênese, uso e manejo adotados são importantes fatores na dinâmica da água em bacias hidrográficas. Neste trabalho, avaliaram-se alguns atributos morfológicos, físicos e pedogenéticos, relacionados com o potencial de produção de água em microbacias do município de Guarapari, ES. Soil characteristics related to the genesis, land use and management are important factors in water dynamics in watersheds. This study evaluated physical, morphological and pedogenetic attributes related to water yield potential in small watersheds in Guarapari, ES, Brazil. The following representative profiles were selected, morphologically described and sampled in area of Atlantic Forest domain: Lithic Udifolists, Oxyaquic Udifluventes, Typic Paleudults, Typic Hapludults, Typic Hapludox, Oxic Dystrudepts and Typic Endoaquents. Samples were collected in the soil profiles for physical analysis. Measurements of field-saturated hydraulic conductivity and soil penetration resistance were perfomed in some profiles, which were under different uses. The Endoaquents of Limão Creek can be considered efficient as temporary water reservoirs. However, the use of artificial drainage tends to reduce this effect. Differential erosion was detected by the sand texture on the surface of the Typic Paleudults due to the low degree of clay flocculation, slope, high resistance to the penetration and low hydraulic conductivity of the Bt horizon, making it necessary to adopt soil management practices to increase the water infiltration. Under pasture, mainly in the cattle trails where the trampling is more intense, there was high resistance to penetration in the superficial layers of the Typic Hapludults. The Typic Hapludox have the greatest potential for water yield in the small watersheds because of its greater extent in the headwaters and their morphological and physical characteristics, which can result in increased aquifer recharge.

(5) RESUMO A substituição de ambientes de floresta por pastagens leva a importantes mudanças no estoque de C do solo e consequentemente na ciclagem global desse elemento. Este trabalho foi realizado no município de Itabela -Bahia, e teve por objetivo avaliar o C estocado no solo em pastagem degradada e produtiva com diferentes idades de uso, comparativamente ao solo de mata natural. Para tal, foram selecionadas áreas com remanescentes de Mata Atlântica, pastos produtivos com 2, 9 e 18 anos de uso e pasto mal manejado com 18 anos, situadas em relevo plano e mesma classe de solo (Argissolo Amarelo). Nesses locais, foram alocadas três parcelas para coletas de amostras de solo e posterior análise de C. Com os dados obtidos, foi possível observar que não houve diferença significativa para os estoques de C do solo, entre os ambientes de mata, pasto degradado e pasto produtivo, com diferentes idades de uso e nas diferentes camadas de solo avaliadas. Além disso, observou-se que após 28 anos de uso com pastagem bem e mal manejada, em média 62 % do C orgânico do solo ainda é derivado da floresta original.

Due to the influence of relief on soil variability, homogenous pedogenetic conditions have been recommended for developing soil quality indices based on their chemical, physical and biological attributes. This limits the development and application of an index to the same pedoenvironment in hilly relief. The present work aimed to evaluate the soil coverage and soil chemical and physical attributes as indicators of quality related to visual aspects of pasture degradation and contextualizing the influence of the relief. For this purpose, degradation levels were separated from visual aspects, and soil coverage as well as soil chemical and physical attributes were evaluated. Such levels were less subjectively defined, with the discriminant functions generated using information from soil coverage. Factor Analysis showed that altitude and slope explain a lower proportion of the total variation of the data. On the other hand, slope variations control the majority of soil attribute variations, especially the physical attributes that do not present a clear and direct relationship with degradation levels, which makes it difficult to use these attributes as indicators of quality. This relationship with the soil attributes is differentiated mainly as a function of the sun-facing slope: on the East/South facing slope, a greater relationship was observed for the physical attributes and plant cover, which was not observed on the West/North facing slopes. The influence of hilly relief on controlling solar radiation and soil moisture modifies the soil-vegetation relationship dynamic. As such, on hilly relief the measure of plant cover and use of discriminant functions becomes a more efficient way to discriminate among degradation levels, with environmental factors (temperature, solar radiation and soil moisture) also influencing pasture quality. Tal fato limita o desenvolvimento e aplicação de um índice para um mesmo pedoambiente de relevo mais acidentado. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a cobertura do solo e atributos químicos e físicos do solo como indicadores de qualidade relacionandoos com aspectos visuais de degradação das pastagens e contextualizando a influência do relevo. Para tanto, separaram-se níveis de degradação a partir de aspectos visuais, avaliou-se a cobertura do solo, atributos químicos e físicos do solo.
