-The objective of this work was to evaluate the microbiological and chemical attributes of a soil with a seven-year history of urea and swine manure application. In the period from October 2008 to October 2009, soil samples were collected in the 0-10 cm layer and were subjected to the treatments: control, without application of urea or manure; and with the application of urea, pig slurry, and deep pig litter in two doses, in order to supply one or two times the recommended N doses for the maize (Zea mays)/black oat (Avena strigosa) crop succession. The carbon of the microbial biomass (MB-C) and the basal respiration (C-CO 2 ) were analyzed, and the metabolic (qCO 2 ) and microbial quotient (qmic) were calculated with the obtained data. Organic matter, pH in water, available P and K, and exchangeable Ca and Mg were also determined. The application of twice the dose of deep pig litter increases the MB-C and C-CO 2 values. The qmic and qCO 2 are little affected by the application of swine manure. The application of twice the dose of deep pig litter increases the values of pH in water and the contents of available P and of exchangeable Ca and Mg in the soil.

In the areas where irrigated rice is grown in the south of Brazil, few studies have been carried out to investigate the spatial variability structure of soil properties and to establish new forms of soil management as well as determine soil corrective and fertilizer applications. In this sense, this study had the objective of evaluating the spatial variability of chemical, physical and biological soil properties in a lowland area under irrigated rice cultivation in the conventional till system. For this purpose, a 10 x 10 m grid of 100 points was established, in an experimental field of the Embrapa Clima Temperado, in the County of Capão do Leão, State of Rio Grande do Sul. The spatial variability structure was evaluated by geostatistical tools and the number of subsamples required to represent each soil property in future studies was calculated using classical statistics. Results showed that the spatial variability structure of sand, silt, SMP index, cation exchange capacity (pH 7.0), Al3+ and total N properties could be detected by geostatistical analysis. A pure nugget effect was observed for the nutrients K, S and B, as well as macroporosity, mean weighted diameter of aggregates, and soil water storage. The cross validation procedure, based on linear regression and the determination coefficient, was more efficient to evaluate the quality of the adjusted mathematical model than the degree of spatial dependence. It was also concluded that the combination of classical with geostatistics can in many cases simplify the soil sampling process without losing information quality.

RESUMONo sul de Minas Gerais faz-se a substituição de florestas de araucária por pastagens ou extensos plantios de eucalipto. No entanto, poucos estudos relacionam, de forma ampla, os impactos nos atributos físicos, químicos, microbianos e visuais do solo causados por esta substituição. Com esse objetivo, selecionaram-se áreas com eucalipto, araucária implantada, mata nativa e pasto implantado em Delfim Moreira, MG, no verão de 2006, de onde se retiraram amostras deformadas e indeformadas de solo para análises químicas (pH, P, K, Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , Al 3+ , H + Al, SB, t, T, V, m e matéria orgânica), físicas (densidade do solo, densidade de partículas, índice de floculação, diâmetro médio geométrico, macro e microporosidade) e microbianas (atividade microbiana, qCO 2 , C da biomassa microbiana, relação C da biomassa/C orgânico). Com atributos visuais ligados ao solo, às plantas e aos animais, elaborou-se um indicador da qualidade visual para cada ecossistema, que se destacou pela praticidade, simplicidade e sensibilidade na discriminação das diferentes coberturas vegetais. A grande maioria dos atributos físicos e microbianos mostrou-se eficiente nas avaliações da qualidade ambiental, que revelaram grande disparidade entre a pastagem e os demais ecossistemas, e alta similaridade entre o ecossistema eucalipto com sub-bosque desenvolvido e araucária implantada.Termos de indexação: araucária, eucalipto, indicadores da qualidade do solo.
