Abstract: ABSTRACT. Community of bees (Hymenoptera, Apoidea) in the coastal sand dunes at Panaquatira beach, São José de Ribamar, Maranhão, Brazil. The community structure of Apoidea of a restricted area of primary dunes in São José de Ribamar, Maranhão, Brazil was analyzed. Standardized samples were taken for one year, 2 times a month, from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the first day and from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. on the second by two collectors. A total of 3305 individuals of 31 species, belonging to four families (Api… Show more

“…Subfamily Apinae was notable in the present study, reflecting the known tendency for the species richness of this subfamily to increase at lower latitudes [17,19,66], while Andreninae and Colletinae are known to be poorly represented in the neotropical realm [67], explaining the possible absence of these two subfamilies in the community studied.…”

“…For the remaining studies in which only one sampling method was used, whether an insect net [7,17,19,22] or scentbaited traps [8-11, 14, 16, 64, 65], comparisons in terms of species richness will be presented for the relevant method.…”

“…It was not feasible to measure the real impact of weather changes on the bee activity during the day, which should become a potential target for further researches in the Cerrado area. In general, bees visit flowers mostly at the morning period due to the good climate conditions and floral resources availability (Melo et al 2009, Oliveira et al 2011 and this may explain the male euglossine bee activity at the baits.…”
