Orius insidiosus (Say, 1832) (Heteroptera, Anthocoridae): sensibilidade ao fotoperíodo e diapausa reprodutiva?

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Orius insidiosus (Say, 1832) (Heteroptera, Anthocoridae): sensitivity to diapause-inducting photoperiods? The minute pirate bugs, Orius spp., are known as predators on several pests as thrips, aphids, spider mites and whiteflies. Orius insidiosus is an important thrips predator, commercially used around the world. However, one of the main problems on biological control of thrips in temperate regions is the occurrence of reproductive diapause in Orius species. This characteristic promotes the interrup… Show more

“…The thermal requirements for development in many insects gradually vary during summer under the effect of changing daylength, which may have adaptive significance (Lopatina et al, 2011). In general, insect life attributes (Chocorosqui & Panizzi, 2003;Niva & Takeda, 2003;Silveira & Bueno, 2003;Amin & Kwon, 2011) including development (Ishida et al, 2003Macedo et al, 2003;Nakamura, 2003;Tokumaru & Abe, 2003;Berkvens et al, 2008) The objective of the study was to decipher: i) the change in ratio of slow and fast developing individuals in a cohort with changing photoperiod, and ii) the variation in developmental and reproductive attributes of these developmental types. Through results we hope to gain an insight into the environmental control over the phenomena.…”

“…However, an increase in the aphid population in China has led to the emergence of aphids as key pests, despite the use of this genetically modified cotton variety (DENG et al, 2003). This phenomenon may have been caused by changes in tri-trophic interactions in the agro-ecosystem or by unanticipated pleiotropy in transgenic plant varieties (SUJII et al, 2013).…”
