Abstract: ABSTRACT. Polietina Schnabl & Dziedzicki, 1911 (Diptera, Muscidae) is a New World genus of Muscini, which comprises 18 species. The male of P. major Albuquerque, 1956 and the female of P. wulpi Couri & Carvalho, 1997 are herein described and illustrated for the first time. “…Adult morphological terminology follows McAlpine (1981) and Huckett & Vockeroth (1987), except for traditional terms retained following de Carvalho (1989a), namely, humeral callus (for postpronotum), humeral setae (for postpronotal setae), posthumeral and presutural setae (for presutural intra‐alar setae), prealar seta (for first postsutural supra‐alar setae), and calcar (for the developed seta at the apical third of the posterodorsal surface). Some other terms are adopted here: median and marginal spined processes of cercal plate (for the superior and inferior spined processes, respectively) (Nihei, 2004), and ventral tuberculus on the eighth sternite of female terminalia (formerly unnamed) (Nihei, 2002). The following abbreviations are used: acr, acrostichal setae; dc, dorsocentral setae; A, anterior; AD, anterodorsal; AV, anteroventral; D, dorsal; P, posterior; PD, posterodorsal; PV, posteroventral; V, ventral.…”

“…Polietina was revised by Couri & Carvalho (1997), and complemented by the taxonomic contributions of Couri & Carvalho (1996), Couri & Pamplona (1997), Nihei (2002Nihei ( , 2004a and Nihei & Carvalho (2004). More recently, Nihei (2004b) provided generic and specific diagnoses and an updated key to species, as well as performed cladistic and biogeographic analyses for this essentially Neotropical genus.…”
