Effects of web-based electrocardiography simulation on strategies and learning styles

Abstract: Objective:To identify the association between the use of web simulation electrocardiography and the learning approaches, strategies and styles of nursing degree students. Method: A descriptive and correlational design with a one-group pretestposttest measurement was used. The study sample included 246 students in a Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support nursing class of nursing degree. Results: No significant differences between genders were found in any dimension of learning styles and approaches to learning… Show more

“…1,4,14 Consequently, nursing educators are faced with the challenge of promoting safe practice by developing valid and reliable assessments tools that can be used to rigorously assess nursing students' competence before being allowed to work without supervision. 6,37 It has been argued that accepting the holistic definition of competence could help nursing educators to develop more effective, valid and reliable assessment tools. 5,7,20,25 From this perspective, achieving a specific competence requires individuals not only to acquire and retain the knowledge and the skills needed to make the right decisions and correctly perform certain tasks, but also to adopt a confident attitude toward their own ability to do so.…”

“…The literature indicates that there are varieties of e-learning approaches used to deliver instructions, including computer-assisted instructions, web-based instructions, and virtual teaching spaces. [10][11][12][13][14][15][16] E-learning allows the students to participate in academic activities regardless of geographic and time constraints. [17][18][19][20] Furthermore, e-learning is viewed as a response to global pandemic diseases such as Covid-19, requiring physical distancing and lockdowns.…”

“…In a study conducted by Granero-Molina et al 34 using an electrocardiogram simulation in a Web environment, it was possible to stimulate the theoretical learning style, which aims to understand the theory before the practice, and the pragmatic style, where how to apply the knowledge in the real world is what it is necessary to know. The "ECG Fácil" app supplies theoretical information about ECG interpretation on opening the first tabs and then uses clinical cases, aiming to illustrate the application of knowledge to clinical practice.…”
