O conhecimento de profissionais da área da saúde sobre a medida da pressão arterial

Abstract: This study investigated the theoretical and technical knowledge of blood pressure measurement from 110 nursing assistants, 44 physicians and 25 nurses by answering to a questionnaire and practical knowledge through the observation of the blood pressure measurement procedure. In the theoretical knowledge the three categories showed statistically significant differences (p<0,05), the nursing assistants showed a lower indicator of the correctness (32%+/-12%) followed by nurses (44%+/-14%) and physicians (56%+/-13… Show more

“…These findings support literature findings that show that hardly satisfactory knowledge is not a novelty in the context of care delivery to hypertensive patients. A Brazilian study involving physicians, nurses and nursing auxiliaries, about knowledge related to theoretical and practical contents on blood pressure measurement showed that nursing auxiliaries possessed the lowest knowledge level (1) .…”

“…In this context, a study (1 ) about physicians and nursing teams' knowledge showed that these categories did not fully master theoretical and practical knowledge about hypertension and blood pressure measurement. Another research in the same context (2 ) appointed that nurses and nursing auxiliaries satisfactorily perform only 40% of steps in the blood pressure measurement.…”

“…Although nursing professionals are the most familiar with this type of measurement (4) , studies show the performance of the procedure incorrectly (4)(5)(6) . Errors or omission of basic care during BP measurement are documented in national and international studies for over two decades (2,(4)(5)(6)(7)(8) .…”

“…Errors or omission of basic care during BP measurement are documented in national and international studies for over two decades (2,(4)(5)(6)(7)(8) . These errors may be related to unfamiliarity or outdated knowledge of (1)(2)5,8) the technique of BP measurement, which, often, has been studied by the nurses for the last time at the undergraduate level (9)(10) .…”

“…Como se pode observar, o índice de acertos tanto teórico como prático foi abaixo do esperado em todas as categorias, embora, para os médicos, tenha havido uma diferença estatisticamente significante em relação aos enfermeiros e auxiliares de enfermagem 33 .…”
