New Phlebotomine Sandflies of the walkeri group (Diptera: Psychodidae) from Pará State, Brazil, with a pictorial key 1

Abstract: The male and female of Lutzomyia carmelinoi n.sp., and the female only of L. baculus and L. williamsi, (Diptera:Psychodidae) are described and illustrated from specimens collected in Pará state, Brazil. A pictorial key is presented to these and the other members of the walkeri group.

The females are very similar in structure; Ryan et al (1986a) separate them by the ratio of the widths of the common and individual sperm ducts but we key L. lenti and L. cannelinoi together in the same couplet to emphasize that associated males must be on hand before definitive identifications can be made.…”
