Comportamento das cepas Y e Peruana do Trypanosoma cruzi no camundongo, após passagem em diferentes meios

Abstract: The behavior of two strains of Trypanosoma cruzi (Y and Peruvian strains) in experimental mouse infection, after being passed through different conditions of maintainance and cultivation was studied. The conditions were: Warren's acellular culture medium, cryopreservation in liquid Nitrogen, passage through the insect vector and direct blood passage from mice to mice. The parameters considered for comparative study were as follows: parasitemia, mortality rate, maximum survival time, morphology of parasites in … Show more

“…That variation is frequently seen when a new strain of the parasite is isolated, and it is directly related to the stabilization of the relationship between the parasite and the vertebrate host (Albuquerque, 2001). Inoculation of laboratory animals with T. cruzi strains has resulted in a variable mortality rate (Andrade, 1974;Magalhães et al 1985;Barata et al 1988). In this study, such rate was equal to zero for all strains.…”

“…This view is important when we consider T. cruzi strains and the correlations of the genetical patterns with biological behavior. The "stability" of T. cruzi strains can be considered as the possibility of maintenance of its populations in an equilibrium after several laboratory passages in different conditions or through different procedures such as axenic cultures, animal passages, cryopreservation or vector passages (Magalhães et al 1985, Magalhães & Andrade 1991. The clonal homogeneity could be considered as an important factor to this stability.…”
