Sôbre u'a modificação do meio de Monteverde

Abstract: It is well known that the culture media used in the presumptive diagnosis of suspiciuous colonies from plates inoculated with stools for isolation of enteric organisms do not always correctly indicate the major groups of enterobacteria. In an effort to obtain a medium affording more exact indications, several media (1-9) have been tested. Modifications of some of these media have also been tested with the result that a satisfactory modification of Monteverde's medium was finaly selecte… Show more

“…The enrichment media used for all samples were alkaline peptone water (APW) (Oxoid), tetrathionate broth (Oxoid) (BAM ⁄ FDA 2003), Silliker's broth (Silliker et al 1964) incubated at 37 ± 0AE2°C and Rappaport-Vassiliadis medium (Oxoid) at 42 ± 0AE2°C. After 24 h, to detect Salmonella and Shigella, the cultures were streaked onto Hektoen enteric agar (Oxoid) and xylose lysine desoxycholate agar (Oxoid) incubated at 37°C for 24 h, then suspected colonies were subjected to presumptive identification into Costa and Vernin agar (Costa and Vernin 1955). For the detection of Vibrio, APW incubated at 37°C for 8 h was streaked onto TCBS agar (Oxoid) and after 24 h onto glutamate starch phenol red agar (Merck, Darmstadt, Germany) for Aeromonas detection.…”
