“…The species was more abundant in lentic than in lotic environments, but it has never shown high density. Some records of this species in Brazil were formerly made: Manguinhos, State of Rio de Janeiro (Prowazek 1910;Cunha 1913 et al 1990, 1992).…”

In Brazil the species was recorded in Manguinhos, State of Rio de Janeiro (Prowazek 1910;Cunha 1913); in the lakes of the Suia Missu River basin, State of Mato Grosso (Green 1975) and in plankton samples of São Francisco River basin, State of Minas Gerais (Dabés 1995).…”

“…The first reference to a dinoflagellate collected in Brazil was from Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, State of Rio de Janeiro, made by Möbius (1889), describing Peridinium tabulatum f. brasilianum Möbius ('brasiliana'; reinterpreted as Bysmatrum subsalsum (Ostenfeld) Faust et Steidinger by Popovský & Pfiester 1990). In the first half of the 20 th century, studies on protozoofauna (dinoflagellates were then considered from a zoological viewpoint) identified some dinoflagellate species (Daday 1905;Prowazek 1910;Cunha 1913;Kleerekoper 1939). With a gap of almost 30 years, new records of this group were made in southeastern (Bicudo & Bicudo 1967;Bicudo & Skvortzov 1968;1970;Bicudo & Ventrice 1968) and northern Brazil (Uherkovich & Schmidt 1974;Uherkovich 1976;1981;Uherkovich & Rai 1979;Uherkovich & Franken 1980).…”
