Descrição de duas espécies novas de Opopaea do sul do Brasil (Oonopidae, Araneae)

Abstract: DESCRIPTION OF TWO NEW SPECIES OF OPOPAEA FROM SOUTH OF BRAZIL (OONOPIDAE, ARANEAE). Two new species, Opopaea viamao and O. ita, are described from the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, Brazil, respectively. Both species present reduction or loss of posterior median eyes, a possible synapomorphic caracter.KEYWORDS. Gamasomorphinae, Brazil, Neotropical, taxonomy. “…Notable among these taxa are two groups from the Neotropics: the Andean genus Niarchos (Platnick and Dupérré, 2010b) and two species from southern Brazil, closely related to each other, that were misplaced in Opopaea Simon by Ott (2003). One of those misplaced species is of special interest as only two of the posterior eyes are still present, making these animals one of the very few known examples of spiders with only four eyes.…”

“…Finally, two more recently described species from southern Brazil, O. ita Ott (2003) and O. viamao Ott (2003), differ from true Opopaea in having the posterior median eyes reduced or absent, and will be placed elsewhere in future contributions by Ricardo Ott.…”

“…Males of Marsupopaea can be recognised by the deep "pouch" under the mouthparts which receives the pedipalps (Cooke, 1972). Camptoscaphiella can be distinguished from both of these genera by the lack of fusion of the cymbium to the bulb (Brignoli, 1976(Brignoli, , 1978 Burger et al, 2002;Chickering, 1969;Ott, 2003;Roewer, 1963). The relationships of these unusual species must be tested via comprehensive phylogenetic analyses on a wide range of taxa.…”
