MITE FAUNA ON COFFEE PLANTS CV. CATUAÍ AMARELOThe objective of this work was to study the diversity of mites found on a coffee (Coffea arabica L.) plantation located in Atibaia County, State of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The study was carried out on a near 15 year old plantation of 'Catuaí Amarelo'. From 60 marked coffee plants, leaves, branches and berries were collected to evaluate the species of mites present on the plants. Twenty one species of mites belonging to 14 families were found. The highest diversity was observed on branches. The most abundant phytophagous species were Brevipalpus phoenicis (Geijskes) (Tenuipalpidae) and Oligonychus yothersi (McGregor) (Tetranychidae). Among the predators, the mites of the families Phytoseiidae and Bdellidae were the most abundant. The phytoseiid Iphiseiodes zuluagai Denmark and Muma predominated on leaves as well as on branches. Bdella sp. (Bdellidae) was also mostly present on branches.

This study aims to assess the mite fauna of coffee plants in the municipality of Monte Alegre do Sul, SP. The sample period was from April 2004 to February 2008. Each month, we sampled 480 leaves and 1,920 fruits from plants of the Coffea arabica L. cv. Mundo Novo. In total 16,062 adult individuals from 30 families representing 81 species of mite (and 1 incertae sedis). Among them, 95% were obtained from leaves, with the Mesostigmata contributing 23 species and 1,805 specimens. The phytoseiid mites were the most abundant, with 1,793 specimens. Seventeen families of Prostigmatid mites were recorded, represented by 48 species and 12,485 individuals. On fruits, the Mesostigmatid mites included three families and eight species. The Prostigmatid mites included nine families and 18 species, totalling 852 individuals. Brevipalpus sp. was the most abundant and frequent species, representing approximately 92% of the Prostigmatid mites. The present work reveals the occurrence of predator mites on coffee plants in the region: Euseius alatus, Amblyseius herbicolus, Iphiseiodes matatlanticae, Armascirus sp.1 and Dactyloscirus sp..

Este trabalho teve como objetivo fazer um levantamento das espécies de ácaros pertencentes à subordem Prostigmata em Coffea spp. em diferentes localidades do Estado de São Paulo. Folhas e ramos de cafeeiros (Coffea spp.) foram coletados em 24 municípios do Estado de São Paulo e em diferentes épocas do ano. Todos os ácaros encontrados foram montados em lâminas de microscopia. A identificação dos ácaros foi feita até o nível específico quando possível. Foram identificadas 79 espécies de ácaros pertencentes às famílias Anystidae, Bdellidae, Cheyletidae, Cunaxidae, Diptilomiopidae, Eriophyidae, Eupalopsellidae, Eupodidae, Iolinidae, Meyerellidae, Nanorchestidae, Paratydeidae, Raphignathidae, Stigmaeidae, Tarsonemidae, Tenuipalpidae, Tetranychidae, Trombidiidae, Tuckerellidae e Tydeidae.
