Auto-anticorpos anti-β2-glicoproteína I e síndrome metabólica

Abstract: Background: The metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a proatherogenic entity. Autoantibodies to phospholipid cofactors such as beta2-glycoprotein I (beta2-gpI) can influence atheroma appearance. Previous studies confirmed an association of IgA anti-beta2-gpI antibodies with cerebral ischemia, myocardial infarction, peripheral artery disease and carotid disease.

“…metabolic, renal and infectious diseases). 32 34 An association with infections was shown since the early description of aCL antibodies. 35 , 36 Given the fact that infection is also considered as one of the possible second hits triggering APS, it is difficult to consider infection-induced aPL as totally innocent.…”

“…It is commonly known that aβ2GPI IgG/IgM antibodies play an important role in the clinical manifestation of APS. However, as demonstrated by several research groups aβ2GPI IgA antibodies may also be associated with ischemic stroke [101][102][103][104][105]. Arad et al found that aβ2GPI antibodies are not only a marker of APS but are also directly involved in the pathogenesis of thrombosis [106].…”

“…With regard to disease associations of particular isotypes, an increased prevalence of IgA anti-B2GPI has been reported in a variety of disorders such as autoimmune hepatitis, coeliac disease, metabolic syndrome, and haemodialysed patients with end stage renal failure [36,37,38,39]. The significance of these associations remains unclear as the presence of anti-B2GPI is not always associated with APS manifestations.…”
