“…This is in agreement with other population-based studies on V Epeak [39], [42][44], V Tpeak and f Bpeak [22], [45], and as expected as women have smaller lung size and dynamic lung function volumes than men, also after adjusting for differences in stature [46]. We observed 6–30% higher V Epeak among men and women compared to that seen in Brazilian [42] (n = 3992), American [43] (n = 988) and French [44] (n = 150) populations, as well as in small sample size studies [22], [45], [47], [48]. Yet, a Norwegian study [49] (n = 759) displays V Epeaks fairly consistent with ours.…”

“…We observed V Than at an average 77% of VO 2peak , in both sexes, and in line with other studies (n = 204–3992) [24], [40], [42], [53], [54] minor sex differences. Previous studies report V Than at significantly lower fractions (49–70% of VO 2peak ) [23], [24], [40], [42], [53], [54], or more consistent to that observed by us [25], [55], [56].…”

“…É consenso que homens possuem maior VO 2max que mulheres 1,17,18 . Essa diferença é resultante de maiores concentrações de hemoglobina, além de um volume sanguíneo maior em homens, o que resulta em mais O 2 carreado e ofertado aos tecidos 19,20 . No presente estudo, o grupo de ratos machos apresentou maior VO 2max quando comparado aos grupos ovulatório e ooforectomizado, corroborando com dados presentes na literatura, observados em homens e mulheres.…”

“…Cardiorespiratory fitness is a measure of body function and its assessment should play an important role in physical activity promotion (Jankowski, Niedzielska, Brzezinski, & Drabik, 2015), when cardiorespiratory capacity is high it is associated with lower cardiovascular risk, especially when accompanied by weight reductions (Díez, Sánchez, Mora, Notario, Torrijos et al, 2014). Since it is a prognostic parameter for cardiovascular disease (Herdy & Uhlendorf, 2011). the variable VO2max is generally considered to be the best measure of cardiorespiratory capacity (Freedson and Goodman, 1993;cited in Meléndez-Ortega, Lucy, Barbeau, & Ann, 2010), given this and its importance, the determination of VO2max has become a routine procedure in research projects to evaluate the cardiovascular capacity of subjects (Meléndez-Ortega et al, 2010).…”
