“…The CPX's maximal nature was subjectively defined by the well-trained physician who supervised the procedure and supported by physiological indicators, such as the occurrence of anaerobic threshold (AT) [23], a U pattern of the ventilatory equivalent curves - and by – a score of 10 on the 0–10 Borg scale. The CPXs of patients who did not simultaneously achieve all of these criteria were considered submaximal [24], [25]. Throughout CPX, electrocardiogram, heart rate, blood pressure and arterial oxygen saturation were also obtained.…”

“…Araujo et al (Araujo 1985) compared T4S and deep breathing tests and concluded that T4S appeared to be more specific for assessing parasympathetic function than respiratory sinus arrhythmia, particularly in patients with parasympathetic impairment. Prior studies with the T4S have investigated adult populations, either healthy (Almeida et al 2004), with unfavorable anthropometric characteristics (Ramos and Araujo 2010a), or showing exaggerated blood pressure response to exercise (Ramos and Araujo 2010b). Additionally, reference values for the method have been established only for adults from 18-to 81 years (Araujo et al 2015).…”
