Classificação dos Periódicos no Sistema QUALIS da CAPES - a Mudança dos Critérios é URGENTE!

Abstract: Due to its concern about the future of Brazilian scientific journals after new criteria were adopted by the QUALIS system of CAPES (Brazilian Federal Agency for the Improvement of Higher Education), the Brazilian Medical Association (Associação Médica Brasileira -AMB) has held several meetings at its headquarters in São Paulo to discuss this matter. Editors of the main Brazilian medical journals, directors of the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors (Associação Brasileira de Editores Científicos -ABEC),… Show more

“…Despite substantial criticism of the use of the IF of journals in the evaluation of institutions and researchers, this index continues to be adopted by many agencies that support research ( 17 , 19 , 25 - 30 ) . In this context, stands out the importance of valuing Brazilian journals, an essential factor for national scientific development, as emphasized in a recent editorial signed by important editors of national publications ( 31 , 32 ) . It is of particular interest that, although this study was not designed to answer this question, such findings regarding the IF of journals in which the most productive researchers in Pediatrics publish, reinforce the criticisms about the new Capes'Qualis ( 33 ) .…”

“…This study aimed to evaluate the magnitude of the correlations between scientometrics during the period of evaluation of the WebQuails system (2013 to 2016) and highlight the importance of considering normalized metrics for classifications in the Brazilian scenario. It is important to state that the 2013-2016 Qualis system applied an indiscriminate use of a single citation-based metric, the JIF, which scarcely represents scientific reality 6,13 . Impact factors are influenced by many aspects that are far from assessing the quality of production, such as the size of the scientific community of knowledge fields, the prestige of their subareas in the same field, the average number of authors per article, the language of publication and the country of origin of the authors 4,14 .…”
