Bundle branch and atrioventricular block as complications of acute myocardial infarction in the thrombolytic era

Abstract: During the current era of thrombolytic therapy and in this population, intraventricular disturbances of electrical conduction and complete atrioventricular block were associated with a high and independent risk of inhospital death during acute myocardial infarction.

“…These are the well developed risk factors of ACS and lead to interrupted supply of oxygen to the myocardium. [12][13][14] As we already know that the every cell of myocardium has the potential to become a pacemaker. So, the cases with these risk factors especially those with having combination of these had more severe form of disease and hence led to increased number of this complication to develop.…”

“…Arrhythmias and conduction abnormalities are common complications of AMI, which are a major cause of death within the first 3 days in AMI [1][2][3][4] . It's primarily a consequence of heightened adrenergic nervous system tone, ischemia and myocardial necrosis, hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia, intracellular hypercalcemia, acidosis, free fatty acid production from lipolysis, and increased free radical production from reperfused ischemic myocardium ( Figure 1) 5,6 .…”
