Do tot… Show more

“…intermedia (2.6%) and Ny. neivai (5.4%) observed in the present study were lower than that for this latter species obtained by Casanova et al (2005) and Freitas et al (2009), however, the maximum range for both sexes of Ny. intermedia (180 m) and for Ny.…”

“…The majority of Ny. neivai specimens were recaptured within 24 h, which is different from the behaviour of those in the state of Paraná, observed by Freitas et al (2009), and from those of Ny. intermedia in the present study, which were captured in greater numbers between 24-48 h.…”

“…The results of the current work showed that groups of N. neivai used to assess baseline responses to air flow in the wind tunnel can be reused without influencing the number of flies responding to octenol, as compared to a separate group of flies with no test experience. More studies are required to determine whether the same might be generally applicable following exposure to other semiochemicals, or if any form of learning or habituation occurs in N. neivai , as reported for mosquitoes [31] and other species of sandfly [32,33]. …”

“…pessoai and Pi. fischeri phlebotomines have a very common occurrence in many endemic areas of CL in Paraná State 1 11 - 12 , demonstrating that these species of phlebotomine sand flies present genetic characteristics that allow them to adapt to anthropogenic environments with distinct levels of changes and due to “a sort of” spatial, olfactory memory and/or to the host fidelity that direct them to recognize environments of blood supply, rest and reproduction 2 . The first four species were already marked with natural infection by protozoa of Leishmania genus in other regions of Brazil, showing the potential of vector insects in natural and anthropogenic environments 4 6 .…”
