Multirresistência a antimicrobianos mediada por plasmídios R em cepas de Shigella flexneri isoladas no nordeste do Brasil

Abstract: In Shigella strains were studied the molecular mechanism that mediated the multiply antibiotic-resistance. Twenty-six strains of Shigella flexneri were utilised in this investigation. These strains were submitted to disk diffusion test, mating experiments and plasmid isolation. In relation to antibiotics resistance standard it was observed that all Shigella flexneri strains were resistant to at least, three antibiotics tested. From twenty-six Shigella flexneri strains donors submitted to conjugation process, 3… Show more

“…strains isolated in Mozambique showed that the majority of the MDR isolates were from S. flexneri (47.7%) compared with 7.4% from other species [8]. In Brazil, Sidrim et al, 1998, studied the resistance of 26 S. flexneri strains isolated in the Northeast of Brazil and observed that all strains studied were MDR [45]. Penatti et al (2007) showed that 90% of the S. flexneri strains isolated in Campinas, State of São Paulo, Brazil, were MDR [46].…”

“…Important biological functions are associated with plasmids in Salmonella including virulence factors, resistance to heavy metals, antibiotics, phages and utilization of carbon sources [ 10 ]. The virulence plasmids usually have high molecular weight [ 11 ]. The dissemination of the plasmid may cause an increase in bacterial resistance [ 12 ], interfering with the clinical importance of infections by contributing to increased spread of antibiotic resistance genes [ 13 ].…”

“…Likewise, Sidrim et al . () have demonstrated the transfer of plasmids containing ampicillin resistance genes from Shigella flexneri to Escherichia coli . In the present study, the level of copper resistance of transconjugants obtained with Cu T recipient strains was similar to that of the Cu R donor strains, whereas transconjugants obtained with Cu S recipient strains had a lower level of resistance than the Cu R donor strains.…”
