Show more

“…12 The LE strain has been maintained for more than 30 years at the Schistosomiasis Research Unit (Laboratory of Dr. José Pellegrino, Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil) by serial passage through Biomphalaria glabrata and hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus). Another group of mice were infected with 250 LE cercariae irradiated with 3 Kr of gamma irradiation of Cobalt-60, to sterilize the female worms [13][14][15][16][17] and to prevent the deposition of eggs in the liver parenchyma.…”

“…Our study revealed that rotifer exposure can significantly affect the development of B. straminea snails according to the shell diameter results, implying a potential influence on the reproduction and maturity of Biomphalaria snails. Previous studies revealed that there was an increase in growth inhibition in S. mansoni-infected snails (Looker and Etges, 1979;Meier and Meier-Brook, 1981;Cardoso and Coelho, 1990). Therefore, the growth of rotiferexposed snails was similar to that of S. mansoni-infected snails.…”
