Abstract: OBJECTIVE:To analyze rates of hospitalization due to primary care-sensitive cardiovascular conditions. METHODS:This ecological study on 237 municipalities in the state of Goiás, Central-West Brazil, between 2000 and, used data from the Hospital Information System and the Primary Care Information System. “…In agreement with the findings of other studies, [10][11][12] this study also shows that hospitalizations were more frequent among women in the case of most of the diseases under study, except hospitalizations for CD, which were more frequent among men. A hospital-based study, 13 conducted in a city in Paraná addressing ACSC hospitalizations among women, reports that 49.42% of the hospitalizations in the study group were caused by ACSC.…”

“…1 An ecological study 12 conducted in the state of Goiás, Brazil with 221 cities verified a decrease in the average rates of hospitalizations caused by ambulatory care sensitive heart conditions between 2000 and 2008, in both sexes in towns outside of the metropolitan area with less than 50,000 inhabitants. Decreased hospitalization rates took place regardless of the FHS coverage; however, in towns with low FHS coverage, a decrease was perceived between the initial and final period of analysis, while for cities with medium and high coverage, the decrease took place between the first and third periods, as well as between the second and third periods (p<0.04).…”

“…The implementation of multidisciplinary intervention programs at basic health units can promote the adoption of health practices among people with diabetes, as pointed by a study conducted in a municipality in northwestern Paraná 29 . In general terms, PHC must be associated with the improvement in decision-making as to drug prescriptions, to additional exam requests and to other assessments, including improvement in glycemic control, decrease in consultations with specialists and in search for emergency services 30 .…”
